The example of Mayor Bill Peduto coaching the Carrick High School ice hockey team was fun, especially as the Penguins are playing home games for the Stanley Cup. But, the example fails on a few other levels. Many example exist. A better example: Cory O’Connor, an elected member of Pittsburgh City Council and a city employee, is the varsity golf coach at Pittsburgh Central Catholic (not a public school). Under the existing conditions, he could not be hired to be the coach at Pittsburgh Allderdice, a public school.
